A short history of Kungsholmen’s Gymnasium

The first recorded school on Kungsholmen started in 1672. It was a church school and it had twenty students. The church remained responsible for the education of young people on Kungsholmen until the end of the nineteenth century.

In 1902 Kungsholmen’s “Allmänna Läroverk” started in private accommodation on
St Eriksgatan. In 1907 it moved into a new building on Hantverkargatan – the present school building.

In 1984 Stockholm’s Music Gymnasium joined Kungsholmen’s Gymnasium. Three years later, in 1987, the International Section moved from Norra Real, another gymnasium in Stockholm, and joined Kungsholmen’s Gymnasium.
